Artificial Intelligent Android Balance Maintenance Algorithms

Human beings walk upright which is rather hard to recreate in robotic systems, but it is not impossible. In fact many robotic systems and android type robots they do walk upright, yet this is not enough, as we will be asking them to run, jog, jump and even do sports. The military advances in robotics will be asking artificially intelligent androids to run, fire weapons and maintain balance as mortar rounds, small arms fire and landmines go off around them. All this without missing a beat, falling over or losing sight of your target; not quite as simple as it sounds, but also far from impossible. All these factors present challenges for future robotic engineers and for the artificial intelligent researchers and programmers, who will be designing systems and algorithms to insure that the artificial intelligence robotic android performs up to expectations.

If artificially intelligent androids are to work and help humans complete tasks for which they are assigned, then they must know when to use which program for the sake of stability in completing the movement. There will be different times in which the robotic artificially intelligent android will use different sets of programs to regulate its motion. We all know that when we run there is a point at which neither of our feet are actually touching the ground. When we walk at least one foot or some part of our body is touching the ground at all times.

These two different methods of motion require completely different strategies for robotic engineers. When walking it is more of a matter of weight distribution and when running things such as the position and angle of the feet prior to making the next stride are paramount. When switching from walking to running another program must be set into place for the first couple of strides in then the running program can kick in. It is amazing how complicated it is to design in artificially intelligent robotic system to do what humans naturally do every day of their lives. To consider this in 2006.

Why Travel to Val D’Isere in France

Among Europe’s most notable ski mountains, Val d’Isre brags 345 km of groomed runs. Skiing commences during mid November and culminates in mid May. The high altitude resort supplies everything for you. The village extends down the vale from La Daille up to Le Fornet with the apres ski in the centre of Val d’Isere itself. The bunch of cute houses comprise chic shops many of which have developed since Val d’Isere was chosen for the winter olympics.

Broken into 3 different areas the town has enough trails for all levels of skiers and is great for luxury ski holidays. With a great historical snow record, the town is enormously fashionable amidst pro skiers and motorway skiing intermediates, on the other hand you don’t need to be especially brave to savor what is on offer. It’s easy to how come umpteen Brits are attracted to the area, with its famous apres ski and the variety of entertainment on offer, however the close proximity of Tignes permits you to venture out to calmer areas if it all gets too much.

Pros

A brilliant night-life in France. Everybody understands English. Easy access to Val d’Isre and Tignes known collectively as the the Espace Killy skiing area. There is lots of traffic and whilst there are many buses during the daytime, committed apres skiers had better head to be within walking distance of the town centre.

Cons

Costly. Frantic and fashionable with the English, so not for people anticipating a classic French resort to savour a calming ski holiday. Many skiing lifts can close in inclement weather. Some hard blue and green slopes.

Progress in IHC Performs a Major Role in Diagnosis as Reports of Mesothelioma Are on the Rise

Malignant mesothelioma is a rare and fast moving tumor where no successful therapy exists even with the discovery of several likely molecular targets. The final stages of MPM diagnosis and the long latency that exists connects exposures and diagnosis have made it difficult to fully study the importance of risk factors and their downstream molecular effects.

Quite a few hospitals are beginning to see increasing numbers of people with mesothelioma cancer. This gives pathologists diagnosing the patient many problems, that are broken up into those exposed in distinguishing between malignant mesothelioma and worriless changes and those experienced in separating mesotheliomas from different forms of e-cadherin and connective tissue tumours. IHC is a major factor in diagnosis, nevertheless it must be taken into consideration in regards to the scientific setting and radiological features, and understanding the broad morphological differences existing in cancer of the mesothelium.

Cancer of the mesothelium is a primary cancer of the serosal cavities, an anatomical area that is frequently affected by metastasis, largely from primary carcinomas of the lung, breast, and ovary. Progression in IHC have lead to enhanced diagnostic sensitivity and exactness in the differential diagnosis in both cytological and histological material. Recently, the researchers employed a high level of throughput technology to the classification of new markers that could help in being able to tell the difference between cancer of the mesothelium from cancer in the peritoneum and ovaries, closely related histogenesis found in tumors and antigenic profile. Along with the improved tools accessible for cancer of the serosa diagnosis, realizing the biology of cancer of the mesothelium has increased as of late.

Living Life To The Full

I am a firm believer that people should try to make the most out of each day that they are alive. We all have to die at some point and even though this may seem a little morbid it is true. Today or tomorrow could be our last day and therefore this is why we should be living each day to the full.

Each day I read and watch the local and international news stories which make me aware of some very sad events. People who are very young are dying each day in a variety of different circumstances and I am very much aware that I am not immune from one of these tragic events. No one can say for sure that they are going to live until lets say seventy years of age, most people I think presume that they will, which could be seen in some quarters as a good thing. Thinking positive they say is the right way to think, which I have to admit is something I also agree with.

My attitude is that I need to work to live where as other people seem to live to work. It is like they would rather be at work than at home having fun or spending time with their family. I know a number of people who have young children but who leave their house at around half six in the morning and do not return home until seven at night. This is not because they are poor but because they will take on any extra hours as way as overtime that is offered to them. I personally would rather spend time with my children than be stuck at work and feel that my life is enriched in this way.

When I am on my death bed in what I hope will not be for a long time yet of course, I want to be able to think and say to myself that I have no regrets and that I am happy with the way I have lived my life. At the moment I am lucky as I am able to watch my children grow and mature as people. From the work that I do, I am able to take my family on holiday each year and can afford to pay all of my bills. Some no doubt might say that I should work a lot more hours than I do, I would then be able to buy a better car and would be able to take my family on two holidays per year. What I would say in response to this however, is at what price would I be able to obtain this? I would have to sacrifice much of the quality time I have with my children, would not be able to take them swimming and to the park as often as I do for example. I hope and think that my children are very happy at the moment and this in my opinion is priceless. I will not compromise this in search for a better standard of car etc.

I used to constantly worry about what might happen to me in three or six months time. Will this or that happen? If it does how would I be able to cope? I am of course worrying in these situations about things that have not even and may never happen. This I have now realised is pointless and even very silly. I should be living for today, I should be making the most of today, I will think about tomorrow, tomorrow. I will deal with any problems that come my way in the best way that I can at the time when they happen, that is all I can do. By stressing about them before they happen will only stop me from enjoying myself on that particular day.

Now is the time to stop the stress, worry, fear and depression. There is a good chance that we only have one life, so lets enjoy it.

Education and Democracy

“Education and Freedom,” oxymoron that it is, is probably the most important issue
of the day. The world we inhabit, and the one that will be inhabited by the next
generation, is shaped by what future citizens learn during their most formative
years. The school/teach/educate system exemplifies, and brainwashes young
people, by being authoritarian, hierarchal, and undemocratic. The inherent values
of the education system are self-interest, competition, and materialism. Freedom to
learn is repressed. If we want a different social system, one including freedom,
then we must expose young people to freedom from their birth.

Prof. Roland Meighan of England has emphasized the fact that the word “education”
denotes “to be conditioned, to believe, to perform and to act in a given way.” He
suggests that “learning” is a radically different activity. Charles Hayes, a proponent
for autodidactism, suggests education is something given you , while Learning is
something you take. Ivan Illich in “Deschooling Society” illuminated the difference
and concluded that society would not improve as long a schooling brainwashed
students with the staus quo. Paulo Friere in “Education for the Oppressed” urged
the end of traditional schooling and the development of open minds. John Holt,
after a long life of trying to fix the schools, recognized that that was the wrong road
and proposed we “Teach Our Own.” Manish Jain of India promotes “unlearning,”
that is overriding the brainwashing of schools, and critical thinking. Even those who
are most involved with the education system recognize that education today doesn’t
fit today’s needs, but few move beyond the “fix the schools” syndrome. The issue of
the day is to think out of the box, and go to the roots of why we learn, how we
learn, when we learn and, a secondary concern, what we learn. We need to think in
terms of “learning” not “educating.”

This suggests that the mantra for every individual and every organization should be:
EVERY PERSON HAS THE FREEDOM, THE RIGHT, THE RESOURCES, AND THE
OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN WHAT THEY WANT. WHEN THEY WANT, AND HOW THEY
WANT.

This mantra demands a radical transformation of not only how we learn but of how
we live and of how we govern. It outlines a basic human right and a responsibility.
It does not give that right and responsibility to the government, to the parents, to
the churches, or to any other social entity. It is the right of every individual. It is
the responsibility of every social organization. Libraries, museum, parks, health
centers, farms, factories, churches, city halls, legislatures and every other
corporation and civil organization has the responsibility to provide learning
opportunities for ctiizens.

This is an expression of individual freedom. Every person is free to learn, and to
learn what freedom is by being free. It transforms teaching institution to learning
centers or learning communities. It transforms teachers and parents into mentors
used at the will of the learners. It creates a world of critical thinkers best able to
participate in world affairs. It transfers the money wasted in prison like schools, to
tax breaks for organizations providing learning opportunities selected by the
learners. It pus the hierarchy of individual, family, community, society, and world in
a more human oriented chain of command. It replaces self-interest, competition
and materialism with life-long learning as the purpose of life.

It gives the people of this forum a target to develop (or not).

I had intended to add some words of support to my opening statement. but I found
that Evely Lawrentce in her 1952 summary of what Frederick Froebel said in the
1979s so much better than Icould say it , that I add her piece below.
BE;

Freedom
the great Froebelian revolution
by Evelyn Lawrence 1952

In effect, what is essential, if we are to be capable of the freedom which on any
adequate social theory we need, is a philosophy of education for freedom from the
start. That is the great Froebelian revolution. Capacity for freedom is something
which, step by step, must be built up in us. It must represent a progressive and
cumulative achievement carried forward by growth itself. Education in freedom and
by freedom are essential for it, but they are simply means. The end is that education
from within, by the child’s many sided experience and activity continually integrated
into harmonious development, which will carry him into adulthood as fully master of
himself and an autonomous and responsible member of a free society.

Such an educational philosophy is then simply the carrying to completion of the
freely elected common philosophy of freedom which is our most urgent social need.
It no longer depends on any particular set of ultimate metaphysical beliefs (whether
Froebel’s or any other), but provides the fundamental platform on which the most
diverse ultimate beliefs, so long only as they are compatible with tolerance of one
another, can meet. And once we assume the shared value of freedom, we can
confine our concern, if we wish, to the pragmatic minimum of the contrast between
those conditions which will effectively safeguard it and those which, whatever
nominal homage we pay to it, leave it precarious and insecure. At the best, freedom
from coercion and interference in adult life comes, as we have said, too late; after
living through most of our formative period from infancy to adolescence under
conditions of coercion and interference, too few of us come out inwardly capable of
being free.

What is even more fatal perhaps than positive educational impositions from without
is the habitual disregard, in our conventional traditions of upbringing, of the
demands of inward integration and growth; the lack of access to wide ranges of
human experience; the lack of exercise in methods of judgement and decision; the
failure to provide equipment for freedom and choice. Those who have been left
through their plastic period to the fortuitous interplay of coercion and neglect,
disregard, privation and frustration, and every sort of unregulated force within and
without, will be only too apt to emerge at the mercy of every further strong current
they may meet. This is in fact demonstrated by the ease with which even the
external freedom that is one’s adult “birthright” is surrendered or lost under the play
of one or another form of propaganda or mass movement or mob appeal. That is
the soil in which power ideologies or creeds flourish, though in the end they may
destroy even !

most of those who embrace them.

However, the positive conditions of freedom amount to something very much larger
than any mere sum of avoidances of failures or mistakes. And the inspiration to a
philosophy of education for freedom lies for most of us deeper than the mere need
to make our freedom secure in later life, vital though that may be. Both this need
and those deeper demands are perhaps most satisfyingly met by Froebel’s own
fundamental principle: full respect for the integrity and individuality of every child.
That most searching of moralists, Immanual Kant saw the supreme ethical law in the
principle: treat every human being as an end in himself. But most if not all ethics is
pivoted on the so-called “moral subject”, either taken for granted or formally
declared to be the responsible adult. We may, I think, account it Froebel’s greatest
revolution that he extended and deepened and transformed this principle by
insisting that we must treat not merely every adult but every child as an end in
himself!

. And every youngest child, every infant practically from the start. In this way, and
in this way only, respect for the integrity and individuality of every human person
can be built into all relations of adults to him and into the whole planning and
process of education from the outset; and the requisite range of opportunity, the
equipment and the capacity and power for freedom will then be seen as part of the
very birthright of every child.

Buying Glasses Online

If you want to get hold of discount glasses online then you have to appreciate a few sensible steps before you get going. It is true that you are now uniquely able to dramatically reduce how much you have to spend if you know how to purchase your eyeglasses wisely and it they will be perfectly unhazardous for you to use so long as you become heedful of a few simple rules

Make certain that your new spectacles will fit well

If your current spectacles fit ok, then just measure them up properly and you must acquire perfectly fitting new eyeglasses online.

You need to recognise 4 measures:

  1. the total width – “A”
  2. the Lens height – B
  3. the Lens width – “C”
  4. Nose/bridge Breadth – D
eyeglasses

Of these the most important measurement is the total width (A). You can get your new on line spectacles to fit perfectly well as long as you have the total width, even if you get the lens height or width slightly wrong.

Ensure that you have the right lens prescription

There are four parameters of your prescription that you will need to note:

  1. Sphere – The amount of long or short sightedness. It is a measure of your lens optical power and is measured in diopters. It invariably has a positive (+) or a minus (-) sign in front or above it.
  2. Axis – this relates to the reference point which denotes the direction of the power of your lens. It only really applies if you have cylindrical lens though.. The value will be a number between 1 and 180.
  3. Cylinder – This refers to the degree of astigmatism that you possess. Once More, there is always a plus (+) or minus (-) sign present. You don’t always have this value denoted in a lens prescription.
  4. Pupillary Distance (PD) – This is a really important factor of your prescription which helps to centre the lenses to your face. PD is the distance from the center of the pupil (black circle) in one eye to the center of the pupil in the other eye.
Like It or Not, In This Life… The Name of the Game is Change

Most of us fear change, because – as we’ve all experienced – most change seems to be imposed upon us, originating outside of ourselves.

The only thing that each of us can really change is OURSELVES. A rule to remember, then, is: “The only thing you can change is YOU.”
Therefore, unless you change…NOTHING CHANGES.

But once you’ve changed yourself, your perception of the world has, by definition, changed…and, as a direct result, EVERYTHING CHANGES…at least as far as you’re concerned. In other words, when you see things differently, things are different…AND THE DOOR TO CHANGING YOUR ATTITUDE AND BELIEF SYSTEMS OPENS.

Here, then, is the vital question.

WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE CHANGES IN YOURSELF??

Every ounce of effort you’ve got to give – that’s what it’ll take. That’s the real answer. You need to put out whatever it takes, accomplish whatever change is needed to meet the challenges of personal, social, employment and career development these days.

As my friend Ken O’Brien used to say, “You don’t necessarily get what you want or what you desire. You just get what you get — and that depends on what you do and who you are!”
It’s true that actions are up to you, but events in the world aren’t under your control. You’re constantly faced with having to respond to the world as it changes, which means that you often have to change rather quickly or suffer some kind of loss. So let’s take a look at change…another rather heavy subject.

Many centuries ago it was noted that change is something of a constant. Today things are different. No, change hasn’t stopped. Quite the opposite. It’s happening faster than ever. And not only is change occurring more rapidly these days, but also the degree of change is increasing…even in this shortened time frame.

Change, it seems, is a function of technology, which brings us new challenges along with new knowledge.

Back in the early 17th century, Francis Bacon wrote this famous line: “Knowledge is power.” At that time, the total store of the world’s knowledge was rather meager, and only a few people possessed it…clerics, academics, a few military men. Today, knowledge is doubling about every four years, and, thanks to mass media, computers and other communications devices, many people possess the knowledge.

Today, the power comes from appropriate application of knowledge. Of all the skills you could learn in your life, the knowledge of WHAT WORKS in a GIVEN SITUATION is probably the most valuable.

Here, though, is the rub. The more we know, the less we know how to apply the knowledge we have. Far from the old logic that says that the more we know about the situation the better we’ll be able to handle it, today’s knowledge bank is so extensive and requires so much sifting and sorting, that we experience uncertainty more now than ever before. So let’s take a few minutes to look at CHANGE as KNOWLEDGE — or SKILL.

You know, making changes in your life isn’t easy. And often it’s not a matter of choice; it’s a matter of urgent necessity, even to the extent of being life-preserving. Does a person change personal habits after a severe heart attack? If life is the goal, then change is the order of the day! There are five stages to the change process.

1. The first is CRISIS. The wake up call comes, and we’ve got to change. The minute we make this decision we’ve completed the first stage.

2. Then comes the HARD WORK. Most of it is mental. What will the nature of this change be? What form will it take? What is the objective, the goal? What must be done – a step at a time – to get from where I am to where I believe I need to be? Most people really enjoy this stage, because there’s a sense of control in these exercises. The danger, of course, is that the planning descends into pure fantasy, or that a sense of being overwhelmed sets in because of all that must be decided and done. It’s a tough time, but necessary to the process.

3. Once the thinking part is over, the TOUGH DECISION moment comes…the instant in which you commit to DO IT. You haven’t even made the first move, but a feeling of relief sets in. Believe me, this is a difficult moment, but when it occurs, take careful note of it. How do you feel? Whom do you tell? (It’s a good idea to tell some trusted friends about your decision; this reinforces your commitment to actually DOING IT.)

4. The fourth stage, which almost invariably occurs — but sometimes doesn’t — is THE MOMENT OR MOMENTS OF UNEXPECTED PAIN. These are times when things don’t go as you’ve planned. They’re the frustrating moments when you want to give it all up. When this happens, remember the old cliché, “Don’t quit five minutes before the miracle occurs.” Or tell yourself, “There’s got to be a breakdown before there’s a breakthrough!” These reminders will help you hang in there and keep on moving forward.

5. Finally, there’s THE MOMENT IN WHICH YOU REALIZE THAT THE CHANGE HAS ACTUALLY OCCURRED! Payoffs are arriving! This is the moment of joy and the instant of integration. Enjoy it. It may be the most satisfying reward you’ll get — the knowledge that you’ve succeeded in changing! One thing you may realize in that moment is that more has changed than just events and outcomes. You may realize that YOU have changed, in a very fundamental way.

Congratulations in advance.

Vision Quest Rock Art in BC’s Stein Valley

For 5,000 years the Stein Valley was like a university, where young natives came to learn the secrets of Mother Earth. When a boy or girl from one of the local native tribes was ready — usually between the ages of ten and fifteen — their puberty training would culminate with a vision quest in the Stein.

Often the training would be instructed by a grandparent, a boy’s grandfather or a girl’s grandmother. Some of the exercises the youth might undergo included prayers, purification rites, fasting and vigils at places of power. Dreams were an important aspect of these vigils. A novice would hope to have dreams that contained messages from the spirits. In order to preserve and magnify the power of these dreams, they would paint images from their dreams on nearby rocks. These symbolic rock paintings can still be found in the Stein Valley, one of the largest known rock art sites in Canada.

In the 1970s, logging threatened to destroy this pristine wilderness, located only four hours from Vancouver, BC. Efforts to protect the Stein, led by Lytton and Mount Currie First Nations and environmentalists, finally resulted in its designation as a Provincial Park in 1995.

From the trailhead parking lot it’s a hike of only a few minutes down a lightly-forested hillside and across a rustic bridge to the Stein River. Immediately on your left is the first power spot, a large rock with a two concave hollows, large enough for a person to lie in. Known as the Asking Rock, this is where visitors traditionally stop and ask the spirits for permission to come into the valley and for good weather. A few badly-faded rock paintings can be seen here. Asking Rock is also known as Birthing Rock, because native women used to line the stone ledges with fir boughs and have their children in this sacred place, baptizing their newborn babies in the river, a few feet across the trail. From here to the next significant area of rock paintings is a hike of about 2-1/2 hours.

The Devil’s Staircase ends with a lightly wooded, hilly section. After you finally arrive back down to the river, just as the trail turns to the left, a small fallen tree conceals another trail leading to the right. About 100 feet along this trail is the power spot, a granite cliff which is one of the single largest rock writing sites in Canada. Over 160 images have been identified on a section of rock that’s about 50 feet long. Sadly, most of these images are now very faded or worn. Still, you may be able to locate the famous “Stein Owl” painting which was used as the symbol for the world-famous “Save the Stein” music festivals held in the ’70s and ’80s.

The paint used to create the images was made from powdered hematite, or red ochre. It was mixed with burned tamarack pitch and saliva, applied by hand. The red color symbolized life, luck and goodness. The paintings are fragile, and they must not be touched. In the words of local expert, Annie York, “the reason why Indians strongly demand that they must never be disturbed is because that writing — all those rock writings — they are there to remind the young people that there was a person with knowledge on this earth for thousands of years before people came from Europe.”

When anthropologist James Teit wrote a treatise on aboriginal rock paintings in 1918, he could easily have been describing the Stein Valley: “These paintings are to be found in places such as cliffs, overlooking or close to lakes and streams, near waterfalls, within and around caves, on the walls of canyons, natural amphitheaters and on boulders near trails. Generally they are in lonely and secluded places near where Indians were in the habit of holding vigil and undergoing training during the period of their puberty ceremonies, when they generally acquired their manitous [guardian spirits]. These places were…considered mysterious, and were the haunts of ‘mysteries’ from whom they expected power.”
